Solaire

About Solaire

Solaire is a brand new adjustable air bed from Saatva. If you like to sleep in different positions or have had trouble settling on the right mattress firmness for you, the Soliare may be the answer.

With Solaire, you can choose between 50 different firmness settings, by controlling the amount of air inside its air chambers via remote control. In this way, the Solaire can be customized to suit the sleep needs and preferences of just about any sleeper.

With a significant mechanical component, air beds can break down and some will lose air during the night. Not so with Solaire. It’s made from high-quality materials and is impressively engineered. And, as a Saatva product, the Solaire upholds the company’s high standards of eco-friendly design and construction.

Read the full review below for more on our top-rated air bed.

Highlights
  • Adjustable firmness/comfort (50 settings)
  • Adjustable head and foot positions (w/Lineal Base)
  • 25-year warranty and 5 years of full coverage
  • Free white-glove delivery and setup
  • 120-night free sleep trial
Pros

Great for pain relief and elimination of pressure points on the body.
Dual air chambers and comfort layers make for great motion isolation
Made with high-quality, eco-friendly materials.
More affordable than its competition.
Exceptional customer service (free white-glove delivery, long sleep trial, extensive warranty)

Cons

Almost too customizable. There is a period of experimentation required to get the perfect setting for you.
Despite being less expensive than the competition, it is an air bed and they are pricey.

METRICS RATING DETAILS
Motion Isolation EXCELLENT The Solaire has different air chambers for each side of the bed, which makes for really great motion isolation. With two comfort layers of latex and foam on top of the dual chambers, you’ll feel almost no motion coming from the other side of the bed.
Huggability EXCELLENT The organic cotton pillow top, Talalay latex and gel-infused memory foam all give the Solaire great conforming ability. Adjusting the firmness gives you custom-tailored support and pressure relief.
Durability GREAT Air beds are built to last as long as any traditional mattress, but there’s always the risk that parts wear down or break. Parts can be replaced, which extends the life of the mattress. Solaire comes with the best warranty you can find (25 years with 5 years of full coverage).
Edge Support GREAT Solaire’s edge enclosure system houses the air chambers and reinforces the perimeter of the mattress, giving you great support all the way to the edges of the bed.
Temperature GREAT The organic cotton cover and latex layer of the Solaire make it surprisingly breathable. This air bed does a very good job of keeping you cool while you sleep.
Odor GOOD As with any new bed, some off-gassing smells are to be expected, but Solaire does not come compressed, so initial smells are rather insignificant and fade quickly.
Sex GOOD Air beds are not known for their responsiveness, but increasing the amount of air inside the Solaire increases its bounce, as does its latex comfort layer. Most couples will be happy with Solaire in this category.
Noise AVERAGE Like any air bed, the Solaire makes some noise when you fill or empty the air chambers. Luckily, it’s not disturbing and you won’t be making adjustments while you sleep.
Is Solaire the right mattress for me?

Judging the characteristics of a mattress is a subjective process – everyone has a different sleeping experience on different mattresses and their own interpretation of firmness, support, etc. Your own comfort and support are perhaps the most critical things you need to consider when choosing the right mattress for you.

The great thing about Solaire is that your personal ideal firmness and support can be taken into consideration every single night, when you choose between any one of the 50 settings the mattress provides. That level of customization makes the air bed great for pretty much anyone. If you’re a light-weight or side sleeper who likes more contouring to relieve pressure on your joints, simply lower the firmness setting. If you’re a heavier-weight or stomach or back sleeper who needs more support to keep your spine in alignment, crank up the firmness.

You’ll enjoy the Solaire if…
You want the variability and customization that firmness adjustability allows.
You or your partner tends to move a lot while sleeping and you want to limit that disturbance.
You tend to sleep hot.
If you experience back pain, Solaire is a great option for you. The dual comfort layers help provide excellent contouring to relieve pressure points and paired with the ability to adjust the support level you need, make the mattress really great at alleviating back pain.
If you sleep with a partner and want a mattress that can be customized to fit each of your personal needs and sleep styles, Solaire gives you the most adjustability (50 settings) and support.

Layers & Construction

1. Organic cotton pillow top
2. 5-zone, hypoallergenic Talalay latex
3. Gel-infused memory foam
4. Moisture barrier
5. Dual air chambers
6. Power Edge enclosure for reinforced support

Firmness (1 Soft – 10 Firm)

The Solaire offers 50 firmness settings to choose from, which range from about a 3 on the firmness scale from 1 to 10, all the way up to about an 8. For comparison, the popular Sleep Number air beds give you 20 firmness settings.

Sizing & Pricing

The Solaire comes in Twin XL, Full, Queen, UpperFlex Queen, King, UpperFlex King, Split King and California King at the prices below.

Solaire mattresses that are Queen size and up have two air chambers (one for each side of the bed).

UpperFlex models are split at the head of the mattress, so you can adjust the incline of the head position, if you opt for the Lineal Adjustable Base. The Split King is essentially two separate mattresses side by side, which allows you to adjust the head and foot positions on both sides of the bed, if you have the Lineal Adjustable Base.

SIZE DIMENSIONS HEIGHT PRICES w/ Foundation w/ Lineal Base
Twin XL 38”W x 80”L 13” $1,995 $2,154 $3,244
Full 54”W x 75”L 13” $2,595 $2,804 $3,894

Trial & Warranty

Saatva offers a 120-night free sleep trial for Solaire. The air bed also comes with a best-in-class warranty: 25 years with an unprecedented five years of full coverage. Five years of full coverage is the most we’ve seen on offer with any air bed.

Delivery and Customer Service

As with all Saatva mattresses, the Solaire comes with free white-glove delivery service, which includes setup of your new bed and the removal of your old one. This you won’t find with every air bed on the market, some charging one or two hundred dollars for the service.

Customizing and ordering a Solaire is extremely easy and an overall pleasant experience whether you choose to do it online or over the phone. You can speak with customer service representatives both through online live chat and phone support (both of which are 24/7) and you’ll find they are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Bottom Line

Air beds are expensive, but if you’re looking for the ultimate in luxury and precise, personalized comfort, Solaire is a great investment. You’ll get the exact comfort level you want at any given moment. More importantly, you get the exact support you need to relieve pain and get the best sleep possible.

Purple Mattress Review

About Purple

Purple burst on the scene in 2016 with the world’s first No Pressure™ mattress, made from a unique Hyper-Elastic Polymer™ of their own invention. Using this material has allowed them to make their mattresses both extremely comfortable and surprisingly affordable.

They now offer two different beds, The Original Purple mattress and the New Purple mattress. The Original is the less expensive option (but still outstanding in quality) and the New is a more luxurious hybrid. Both beds have Purple’s proprietary “Smart Comfort Grid,” which makes for excellent pressure relief and temperature control.

We love the Original as one of the best values at its price point and the New Purple as one of the top hybrids on the market. Read on for more on why these are two stand-out mattress options.

Highlights
  • Free shipping and returns
  • 100-night free trial
  • 10-year warranty
  • Great temperature control (sleeps very cool)
  • Available in multiple firmness levels and thicknesses (New Purple)
The Original Purple
METRICS RATING DETAILS
Noise EXCELLENT The Purple is as quiet as a mattress can be when you move around on it.
Temperature GREAT Purple’s open grid design provides great airflow through the mattress, which keeps you very cool while you sleep.
Motion Isolation GREAT Many customers who sleep with a partner on a Purple report little to no disturbance when there’s movement on the mattress.
Huggability GREAT The “pressure-releasing” material of Purple is designed to relieve pressure points and create optimal spinal alignment, and it is very effective at doing so.
Durability GOOD The Purple is made of a unique polymer foam that is promised to last for decades. However, the company has not been in business long enough to test whether that claim is true.
Odor GOOD As with most compressed beds, you can expect some off-gassing with the Purple, which should dissipate within a few hours.
Sex AVERAGE As a foam bed, the Purple has minimal bounce. Many couples might prefer a more responsive feel.
Edge Support AVERAGE Edge support is not Purple’s strongest suit, though it is on par with most foam beds.
The New Purple
METRICS RATING DETAILS
Temperature EXCELLENT New Purple’s open grid design does very well to promote airflow and dissipate body heat, so you stay cool while you sleep.
Motion Isolation GREAT The New Purple is up there with the very best when it comes to isolating motion. It’s very difficult to detect any motion coming from the other side of the bed, which makes for few disturbances during the night.
Huggability GREAT The smart comfort grid technology conforms very well to the contours of your body, relieving pressure while still providing great support to the spine.
Noise GREAT The New Purple is just as quiet as the original. Most sleepers report little to no noise from this bed.
Durability GOOD Hyper-elastic polymer combined with the individual responsive coil system makes the New Purple very durable. Given that this is a new product, there’s no telling exactly how long it should last.
Odor GOOD An insignificant amount of off-gassing is to be expected, as with any new mattress. It should dissipate within just a few hours.
Sex GOOD The New Purple is a very responsive hybrid mattress. Couples who like some bounce to their bed will be pleased.
Edge Support GOOD The New Purple’s reinforced perimeter make gives it very good edge support. Great for those who like to sleep closer to the edge of a mattress.
Is Original Purple or New Purple the right mattress for me?

Judging the characteristics of a mattress is a subjective process – everyone has a different sleeping experience on different mattresses and their own interpretation of firmness, support, etc. Your own comfort and spinal support are perhaps the most critical things you need to consider when choosing the right mattress for you.

Both the Original Purple and New Purple are excellent options if you’re looking for quality and value. If you’re on a budget the Original Purple will work very well for you, especially if you like the conforming feeling of a foam bed. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, the New Purple hybrid is the more luxurious of the two.

Both will serve the needs of back, stomach, side and combination sleepers. Lighter-weight sleepers who enjoy sleeping on their side may find the Original Purple to be on the firmer side. The New Purple, on the other hand, is available in multiple firmness options and thicknesses and so can be customized for your sleep style. The New Purple has great conforming to give you that sinking feeling that relieves pressure on the shoulders and hips, and the individual coil support to keep the spine in alignment.
We especially recommend the Original Purple and New Purple mattresses if you sleep with a partner. Both have great motion isolation. Also, if you tend to sleep hot. The open grid design of the comfort layer on both beds makes them extremely breathable and temperature neutral.

Dreamcloud Mattress Review

About DreamCloud

A newcomer to the mattress space, DreamCloud was founded in 2017 and has its headquarters in New York. The DreamCloud mattress is a 15-inch luxury hybrid made with latex, memory foam, a unique coil technology and a tufted cashmere blend cover.

With an 8-layer construction, the DreamCloud is designed to offer impressive support, comfort and temperature control. A hand-tufted cashmere euro top and gel-infused memory foam give the DreamCloud great breathability, keeping you cool while you sleep, while the combination of dense memory foams, natural latex and a micro-coil system provide great spinal alignment for all different sleep types. This design makes for an overall medium/firm feel.

At 15”, it dwarfs its direct-to-consumer, bed-in-a-box competitors. You will not find another rolled/compressed mattress at that thickness. Its size, along with the quality materials that go into it, makes the DreamCloud a standout when it comes to offering luxury at an affordable price.

Highlights
  • Hand-tufted, luxury cashmere cover
  • 15” thick, comes rolled/compressed for easy shipping
  • 365-night free trial
  • Free shipping and returns
  • “Everlong” warranty
Pros

High-quality, luxury materials with the convenience of bed-in-a-box delivery.
Artisanal hand-tufting process shows dedication to craftsmanship.
8-layer system of premium foams, latex and coils.
Free 365-night sleep trial with a lifetime warranty and optional white glove delivery.

Cons

If you enjoy the feeling of sinking into your mattress, the firmer feel of DreamCloud may not be right for you.
Some may find 15” thickness to be bulky, rather than a testament to quality.

METRICS RATING DETAILS
Odor EXCELLENT The DreamCloud does let off some odor upon unboxing, but consistent with customer reports, we observed the smell dissipating within a day or so.
Temperature GREAT The DreamCloud is one of the cooler mattresses you can find. Its top layers (cashmere blend cover + gel-infused memory foam) make it extremely breathable without skimping on support.
Sex GREAT With latex and coils in its core, the DreamCloud has just the right amount of bounce and responsiveness to it.
Noise GREAT The spring coil system within the DreamCloud does not contribute any noise. This hybrid mattress is as silent as any memory foam bed.
Durability GOOD This hybrid mattress is made of several different materials and hasn’t been around long enough to determine if it can last as long as promised. However, a lifetime warranty shows DreamCloud is confident its mattress is built to last.
Motion Isolation GOOD The DreamCloud does very well when it comes to isolating motion on its surface. Nothing but good things have been reported by consumers who sleep with a partner.
Huggability GOOD Despite its top layer of hyper-soft, tufted cashmere, the DreamCloud has a firmer feel and thus does not contour to the body to the extent that many softer mattresses do. The “Bestrest” coil structure provides excellent support, but not much of a sinking-in feeling.
Edge Support AVERAGE A foam-encased outer edge helps provide edge support, but this is not the mattress’ strongest feature.
Is DreamCloud the right mattress for me?

Judging the characteristics of a mattress is a subjective process – everyone has a different sleeping experience on different mattresses and their own interpretation of firmness, support, etc. Your own comfort and spinal support are perhaps the most critical things you need to consider when choosing the right mattress for you.

DreamCloud is a great mattress option. Most if not all sleep types will have their needs met by this bed. Back and stomach sleepers will enjoy the supportiveness of the DreamCloud. Side sleepers will find the contouring of the DreamCloud to be satisfactory, offering great support, spinal alignment, and pressure relief, but those who like the feeling of really sinking into their bed may find the DreamCloud to be too firm. This firmness also makes the DreamCloud especially great for heavier-set sleepers or anyone who enjoys the feeling of floating on, rather than sinking into their bed.

You’ll love the DreamCloud if…
You tend to sleep hot, so you want a bed that keeps you cool. DreamCloud breathes very well, so it does not retain too much body heat.
You enjoy the feeling of sleeping on top of your mattress, rather than sinking into or being enveloped by it, as you would with a foam bed.
You like a very responsive/bouncy bed.

Layers & Construction

1. “Truetufted” cashmere blend top
2. Gel-infused memory foam
3. Super-soft quilted memory foam
4. Supreme natural latex
5. Dream plush supporting memory foam
6. Super dense memory foam
7. Patent-pending “Bestrest” coils
8. High-density super-soft memory foam

Firmness (1 Soft – 10 Firm)

The DreamCloud comes in only one firmness option, which we rank at about a 6-7 on the firmness scale.

Sizing & Pricing

DreamCloud mattresses come in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and California King at the following prices.

SIZE DIMENSIONS PRICES HEIGHT
Twin 39” x 75” $799 15 inches
Twin XL 39” x 80” $999 15 inches
Full 54” x 75” $1,199 15 inches
Queen 60” x 80” $1,399 15 inches
King 76” x 80” $1,499 15 inches
California King 72” x 84” $1,499 15 inches
Trial & Warranty

DreamCloud offers a 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty.

Delivery

DreamCloud offers free shipping and returns, as well as optional white glove delivery service that includes the removal of your old mattress. Also, if you move to a new home anytime during the life of your mattress, DreamCloud will cover the cost of having it moved.

Customer Service

Aside from optional white glove delivery, the DreamCloud comes with a few other customer service perks. First, you’ll get a professional cleaning ($300 value) after one year of ownership. Then, after five years of ownership, if your mattress requires refurbishing, DreamCloud will restore it to “like new” condition free of charge.

Bottom Line

At 15-inches thick, the DreamCloud is made from the kind of luxury materials you’d typically find in expensive retail mattresses, yet it comes conveniently compressed in a box, at a much cheaper price. Its cooling system will keep you from over-heating while you sleep, and the 8 layers of dense memory foam, latex core and “Bestrest” coils will provide an ideal combination of support and comfort. Finally, with a 365-night trial, you’ll have plenty of time to decide if the mattress is right for you (we’re confident you’ll love it!).

Nectar Mattress Review

About Nectar

Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress made with surprisingly high-quality materials considering the low price point. The Nectar mattress comes compressed in a box, like many of its memory foam competitors, like Casper or Leesa, which makes for very easy delivery and set up.

The Nectar demonstrates very impressive contouring. Made with a Tencel cooling cover, 5 layers of premium memory foam, and multiple contouring gel layers, the mattress not only does a great job of hugging the body, it has great breathability. As a result, it offers both softness and support, and sleeps substantially cooler than a lot of memory foam beds out there.

Like most memory foam beds, it is very durable and should last you at least 7-8 years. At such a low price, the Nectar is extremely affordable for a memory foam bed, and you may decide that paying more for another bed-in-a-box alternative is not worth it.

Nectar has a great Side Sleeper Guide on their site which will help determine if Nectar is the right choice for you. And read on for our take on the Nectar mattress.

Highlights
  • Free shipping and returns
  • CertiPUR-US certified
  • 365-night trial period
  • Built with two layers of Gel Memory Foam
  • 11″ thick mattress
  • Forever warranty
Pros

Good contouring/hugging and motion isolation.
More affordable than its competition.
Little-to-no noise when bearing movement.
365-night trial and lifetime warranty.

Cons

Average edge support associated with most memory foam mattresses.
Some customer service-related problems have been reported, but are not the norm.

METRICS RATING DETAILS
Noise EXCELLENT The Nectar makes essentially no noise at all when you apply pressure or move around on it.
Durability GREAT The density of each foam layer of the Nectar really holds up over time. It is just as durable, if not more durable than your typical memory foam bed.
Huggability GREAT The multiple layers of foam in the Nectar make it very good at conforming to a sleeper’s body, which can be great for relieving pressure on various parts of the body and providing pain relief to those areas.
Motion Isolation GREAT As with most memory foams, Nectar does a great job of absorbing movement, which makes it very good at preventing your or your partner’s movements from disturbing one another.
Temperature GOOD Like pretty much all memory foam beds, Nectar retains heat/sleeps pretty hot. However, the tencel cover and gel layer make the Nectar more breathable, and therefore slightly cooler than many memory foam mattresses.
Edge Support GOOD The Nectar has slightly better edge support than many memory foams, especially at such a low price range, due to its dense foam.
Odor AVERAGE Many customers report significant off-gassing smells from the Nectar and most every memory foam bed, especially those that come vacuum sealed. The smell should fade away within a few days.
Sex AVERAGE Most memory foam beds may not have the bounce and responsiveness that some couples find essential for sex. The Nectar mattress has very little bounce.
Is Nectar the right mattress for me?

Judging the characteristics of a mattress is a subjective process – everyone has a different sleeping experience on different mattresses and their own interpretation of firmness, support, etc. Your own comfort and support are perhaps the most critical things you need to consider when choosing the right mattress for you.

We think the Nectar mattress should provide an enjoyable sleep experience for people with any sleeping style. Whether you are a side, back, stomach or combination sleeper, your needs will likely be met by the Nectar. The Nectar is a medium to firm, supportive memory foam and so should be especially suited for sleepers who are on the heavier side and who like sleeping on their back.

You’ll enjoy Nector if…
You’re all about memory foam beds, but don’t want to sink into your mattress too much.
You want contouring and pressure relief to your back, neck and shoulders.
You sleep with a partner and don’t want to be disturbed by their movement, or disturb them with your movement.
You don’t mind the warmness of memory foam beds, but would like one on the cooler end of the spectrum.

Layers & Construction

1. Tencel cooling cover
2. Quilted gel memory foam
3. Gel memory foam
4. Adaptive hi-core memory foam
5. Breathable base layer

Firmness (1 Soft – 10 Firm)

5.5-7.5 (Just Right)

Sizing & Pricing

Nectar mattresses come in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and California King at the following prices.

SIZE DIMENSIONS PRICES HEIGHT
Twin 39” x 75” $524 11 inches
Twin XL 39” x 80” $594 11 inches
Full 54” x 75” $724 11 inches
Queen 60” x 80” $824 11 inches
King 76” x 80” $1,024 11 inches
California King 72” x 84” $1,024 11 inches
Trial & Warranty

Nectar offers a 365-night trial. Their warranty is good for life, but it is only free for 10 years, after which the customer is responsible for a transportation cost of $50 each way.

Delivery

Nectar mattresses come compressed and vacuum sealed. They will be delivered free to the 48 mainland states, and fees apply to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. You can also opt to pay $149.00 for white glove delivery, and for another $20.00 ($169.00 total), Nectar will remove your old mattress for you.

Bottom Line

Nectar is relatively low cost for a memory foam bed. It’s priced considerably lower than competitors like Tuft & Needle, Casper and Leesa, but is not at all lacking in quality materials and construction. If you are in search of a great mattress that is inexpensive, this is a great choice for you. With unmatched quality at this price, the Nectar is truly an amazing value, which is why it’s #2 on our list of memory foam beds! If you’d rather spring for a more luxurious memory foam mattress that costs a bit more, it doesn’t get any better than the Loom & Leaf.

Avocado Green Mattress Review

About The Avacado Green Mattress

The Avocado Green Mattress was produced in 2015 in Hoboken, NJ, handmade in California. The goal of Avacado is simple; to make a mattress that is non-toxic, with organic materials at an affordable price.

They do not use petroleum-based polyurethane, toxic flame retardants, or hazardous pesticides. Their mattresses are Greenguard Gold certified. This means the substances are examined for volatile organic compounds, formaldehyde, and phthalates, by a third party.

A bunch of effort and energy went toward the manufacturing process of this eco-friendly mattress type.

And Avocado displays confidence in what they made. So much so that they have a solid return policy by offering a 100-night sleep trial. Meaning you get about three months to test it. They want you to be satisfied. So if you’re unhappy, Avocado will work with you. They will either pick it up or arrange a donation and provide you with a full refund.

The organic mattress comes in a non-pillow-top alternative that is a medium firmness. The Avocado mattress also interests lighter people or sleepers who simply like a soft feel.

The firmer version could be too solid for some sleepers. Nevertheless, it does still form around pressure points properly. Meanwhile, the pillow-top option is particularly effective for side sleepers who suffer from shoulder or hip problems.

What Type of Sleeper Is Best Suited for an Avocado Mattress?

Based on feedback from customers, Avocado Green mattresses earned the following ratings among sleepers of various sizes and favored sleep habits. It should be noted that these ratings are subjective and everyone has differing experiences. Sleeper spinal support and comfort are the most significant determinants when selecting a bed.

Because the bed is made of 100% GOLS organic certified latex, the regular model is generally more responsive and firmer than conventional memory foam. Read about why Avocado chooses to use Dunlop Latex over Talalay.

Some sleepers state that the feeling of the regular version is more like drifting on a cloud. You feel like you’re above the mattress more than cradled in it, which is great for spine support.

However, if you’re looking for something to give that hug feeling then you might consider the plush model. One thing that you should note is that the pillow top costs more. This is expected though since it’s extra material that they’re going to be shipping to you. Besides, it’s made of very high quality and eco-friendly materials, just like the standard mattress.

Free Delivery – Right to Your Door

Avocado Green offers free shipping on all sizes. It arrives in a box and is delivered right to you, then you can set it up by yourself. The only exemption to this is if you order their Queen pillow-top or larger. For these orders, Avocado will ship these with their White Glove Curbside service. Though that doesn’t include any set-up it’s still a great perk. If you do want to take advantage of their optional White Glove In-Home Delivery, which does include setting up your new Avocado mattress in your home and optionally taking away your old one, the service will be an extra $199.

Normally, you just need to carry the box to your bedroom, pull it out, and lay it down. The mattress will then begin to take on air, and after a few hours, it will be ready. Because most of the size is in the coils, it shapes pretty fast.

Even after it has relaxed it is very simple to move around. It has two sturdy handles on both sides, making it easy to modify or even move to a different room.

Approved For Serious People – Utilizing Only Natural Materials

The Avocado Green is a luxurious product at a fabulous price. Which is why it is one of our Top Mattress. However, we particularly recommend it to people who want an eco-friendly option.

Avocado is recognized for its philanthropic efforts and is a very honest company that treats its customers, and the planet well. Learn more about the different ways Avocado is helping our planet by reading about how they offset their carbon emissions, their involvement as members of 1% for the Planet, or just their all-around eco-conscious mindset.

If you desire an environmentally friendly option then do not overlook the Avocado.

Eight Mattress Review

About Eight

Founded in 2014 and based in New York City, Eight Sleep was named by Fast Company as one of the Most Innovative Companies of 2018. Eight positions itself as the world’s first sleep fitness company–using cutting-edge technology that’s specifically designed to help people achieve optimal sleep fitness. They’re doing it with two revolutionary mattress options: the Smart Bed and the brand new Pod. In this review, we’ll be focusing on The Pod, which is any technology lover’s dream bed. The Pod combines dynamic temperature regulation, biometric tracking, smart home integrations, and AI sleep coaching to deliver a revolutionary mattress that really enhances the sleep experience. Read on for deeper dive into what that all means.

Highlights
  • Active cooling and heating (Dynamic Temperature)
  • Biometric sleep tracking with an accompanying app
  • Connects to smart home devices, like Amazon Alexa
  • Thermo alarm wake-up system
  • Artificially intelligent sleep coach
The Technology

The Pod is certainly the most teched-out mattress you’ll find on the market, and all of the advances that have gone into it are specifically designed to improve your sleep health and overall wellness. If you’re someone who is passionate about health and wellness and geeks out on the latest innovations, look no further than the Pod.

Temperature Control
The Pod’s most impressive and beneficial feature Eight calls “dynamic temperature.” Using artificial intelligence that learns your sleep habits, the Pod can adjust its temperature automatically according to your circadian cycle to keep you cool throughout the night. A cooler sleep environment helps you fall asleep faster and stay in deeper sleep for longer. Dynamic temperature from the Pod allows it to react to the sleeper during the night, so they’re never too hot or too cold. The temperature of the bed can also be adjusted manually (between 55 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit).

You can also use the dynamic temperature feature to wake you up in the morning, with the Pod’s thermo alarm. The thermo alarm allows you to wake up more naturally (without a noisy alarm, and without disturbing your partner) by gradually cooling the bed as your wake-up time approaches. Dynamic temperature also works independently on each side of the bed, so it can perfectly support each partner’s unique needs.

Biometric Tracking
Eight’s artificial intelligence also tracks and monitors your sleep health. An AI-powered sleep coach analyzes more than a dozen physiological and environmental factors captured by the Pod’s advanced biometric tracking, like your stages of sleep, your heart rate, and even your breathing. It shares insights and personalized sleep tips to help you make progress over time. All this and more can be accessed and controlled through the accompanying app. The Pod’s biometric tracking also works independently on each side of the bed to cater to each individual sleeper.

Smart Home Integration
The Pod also integrates easily with your smart home. You’ll be able to connect just about any WiFi-enabled device, like Nest, Philip Hue Lights or Amazon Alexa, and manage them with your phone or tablet.

METRICS RATING DETAILS
Temperature EXCELLENT This is where the Pod truly stands out. No other mattress offers the same level of temperature control.
Motion Isolation EXCELLENT Four layers of adaptive foam make for excellent motion isolation. Also, the dynamic temperature and biometric tracking features work independently on each side of the bed.
Huggability GREAT The Pod’s adaptive foam provides great contouring and pressure relief for back, side and stomach sleepers.
Noise GREAT As a foam bed, the Pod is virtually noiseless. The electronic Hub, which controls the water flow to the bed is also very quiet and goes unnoticed.
Durability GOOD The foam mattress itself should last a long time. The Pod is a new product, so it is difficult to predict exactly how long its extensive technology will perform optimally.
Odor GOOD The bed comes compressed in a box, so you can expect some off-gassing that should dissipate within a few hours.
Sex GOOD Despite being made of foam, the Pod has good bounce to it, which many couples feel is important for sex.
Edge Support AVERAGE Typical of foam mattresses, the Pod has satisfactory edge support.
Layers & Construction

The Pod has four layers of premium, high-density foam and a proprietary Active Grid layer, which is where the tech magic happens, so to speak. The Active Grid is designed to relieve pressure points, regulate temperature and capture all that biometric data as you sleep.

External from the mattress itself is the Hub–a 16-pound, 16″ x 6″ x 15″ box that is the core of the temperature control system, circulating water through the Active Grid via a cylindrical tube which connects it to the mattress.

Firmness

The Pod has a medium firmness–about a 5-6 on a firmness scale from 1 to 10. Good for a majority of sleepers, regardless of size or type.

Trial & Warranty

For the Pod, Eight offers a 100-night free trial, along with a 1-year warranty for the tech components of the bed (Active Grid and Hub) and a 10-year warranty for the physical mattress (foam layers).

Sizes and Pricing

Available in Full, Queen, King and California King. No Twin or Twin-XL sizes. Pricing starts at $1,995 for a Full, $2,195 for Queen, $2,495 for King and California King. Financing is available.

SIZE DIMENSIONS PRICE HEIGHT
Full 54” x 75” $1,995 11 inches
Queen 60” x 80” $2,195 11 inches
King 76” x 80” $2,495 11 inches
California King 72” x 84” $2,495 11 inches
Delivery

Free U.S. shipping to your door. Once you make your purchase you’ll receive your mattress within 7 to 10 business days plus free returns. The Pod compressed in two boxes–one with the foam bed and the other with the Hub and Active Grid.

Bottom Line

The Pod is a very exciting new innovation in the sleep space. It is a fantastic option for anyone who enjoys staying up on the latest technology and takes their sleep fitness (and overall wellness) seriously. With dynamic temperature, biometric tracking, AI-sleep coaching and more, the Pod has everything you need to take control of your overall sleep experience. Most of this is quite easy to use, but if you’re not someone who considers themselves at least moderately tech-savvy, then the Pod may be more than you need to get a great sleep.

Loom & Leaf Mattress Review

About Loom & Leaf Mattress

Loom & Leaf is Saatva’s luxury memory foam line and their answer to companies like Tempur-Pedic. Saatva’s direct-to-consumer model allows the company to sell the Loom & Leaf Mattress for 70% less than the cost of a Tempur-Pedic, and the mattress does not come in a box like many of its competitors’ products.

While it’s priced slightly higher than some of those bed-in-a-box competitors, like Casper, the Loom & Leaf mattress far exceeds them in quality, making it absolutely worth the extra cost.

The environmentally-conscious sleeper will be excited to learn about Loom & Leaf’s eco-friendly foams, organic covers and Saatva’s overall dedication to greener materials and production when it comes to Loom & Leaf.

Loom & Leaf is made with high-density memory foam with cooling gel in the top layer as well as a supporting base layer made of high-density polyfoam. Its construction makes it remarkably supportive and able to alleviate a lot of pressure mattresses can sometimes put on the body.

The Loom & Leaf comes in two different comfort levels, Relaxed Firm and Firm. Between those two options, just about all sleepers will have their preferences met. This mattress comes highly reviewed by its customers, and you can read on to see why.

Highlights
  • Handcrafted in the USA
  • Made from eco-friendly memory foam
  • Available in Relaxed Firm and Firm
  • Free white glove delivery & old mattress removal
  • 15-year warranty
  • 120-day trial

Learn More About Loom & Leaf

Pros

Comes in multiple levels of firmness.
Hugs your body’s natural alignment and relieves pressure.
Very impressive motion isolation capability and virtually no noise.
Free White Glove delivery and old mattress removal.

Cons

L&L sleeps cooler than most memory foams, but may be too hot for some.
Average edge support.
Memory foam can have odor, but Loom & Leaf’s is negligible.

METRICS RATING DETAILS
Motion Isolation EXCELLENT Loom & Leaf sleepers report virtually no motion transfer when a partner moves or gets in/out of bed.
Noise EXCELLENT The Loom & Leaf is pretty much completely silent when supporting transfer of movement.
Durability GREAT Loom & Leaf mattresses are relatively new, so it’s difficult to say exactly how long they will last. But the quality of the materials used in its construction suggests it will be as durable if not more durable than many of its memory foam competitors.
Huggability GREAT Loom & Leaf mattresses conform closely to sleeper’s bodies to align the spine, target pressure points, and alleviate pain symptoms. Two firmness levels are available to accommodate users with different preferences.
Odor GOOD A lot of memory foam mattresses have significant off-gassing smells, especially those that come compressed in a box. The Loom & Leaf does not come compressed in a box, and any smell it does emit at first should dissipate within hours. It is also worth noting that you’re not breathing in anything that can be harmful to you with Loom & Leaf–its eco-friendly foams are sourced with a commitment to quality, safety and the environment.
Sex GOOD Like all memory foam mattresses, the Loom & Leaf has very little if any bounce, which may or may not be what you and your partner enjoy.
Temperature GOOD Memory foam mattresses tend to sleep hot, but Loom & Leaf’s proprietary Spinal Zone Gel layer and breathable airflow channels keep you cooler than most memory foams, while providing optimal spinal support.
Edge Support AVERAGE Most memory foam beds have only decent edge support. Loom & Leaf is only slightly better than its competitors in this category.
Is the Loom & Leaf mattress right for me?

Judging the characteristics of a mattress is a subjective process – everyone has a different sleeping experience on different mattresses and their own interpretation of firmness, support, etc. Your own comfort and support are perhaps the most critical things you need to consider when choosing the right mattress for you.

The Loom & Leaf is a great mattress option for basically any sleeper, especially those who like the body-hugging feeling of a memory foam bed. The thick comfort layers that make up the Loom & Leaf conform to your body in a way that relieves pressure at points where many beds can cause pain. Side sleepers of any size and weight will love Loom & Leaf for the way it hugs your body while providing enough support so that you don’t sink into it too much.

With two firmness options, the Loom & Leaf also works perfectly for back and stomach sleepers of all sizes. People on the lighter side will likely find the Relaxed Firm more enjoyable.

You’ll love the Loom & Leaf if…
You are looking for an affordable, luxurious, soft mattress.
You prefer the body-hugging experience of memory foam.
You share a bed with someone, especially if one of you moves quite a bit while sleeping. The motion isolation on the Loom & Leaf is extremely good.

Layers & Construction

1. Quilted organic cotton covering
2. A cooling layer made with Spinal Zone Gel
3. Eco-friendly, 5lb. premium foam
4. Multi-layer breathable support

Firmness (1 Soft – 10 Firm)

Loom & Leaf’s two different comfort levels, Relaxed Firm and Firm, have proven to meet the needs of most any sleeper. It does an excellent job serving the needs of side, back and stomach sleepers of all sizes.
Relaxed Firm (6)
Flagship comfort level — not too hard, not too soft, “just right” support. Great for people who sleep on side, back, or stomach, or who switch positions throughout the night.
Firm (8)
For sleepers who prefer a very firm feel. Great for back or stomach sleepers.

Sizing and Pricing

The Loom & Leaf is available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and California King at the following prices.

SIZE DIMENSIONS PRICES W/ FOUNDATION
Twin 38″W x 75″L $749 $908
Twin XL 38″W x 80″L $849 $1,008

Delivery

The Loom & Leaf does not come compressed in a box like many of its competitors coming on the market. It will be hand-delivered, via free white glove delivery service that includes set up in the room of your choice, and the removal of your old mattress.

Bottom Line

If you like the body-hugging feel of a memory foam mattress, you should go with the Loom & Leaf. Customers report that the Loom & Leaf helps remove a lot of the neck, back and body pain they experience. And it rates highly in motion isolation, so it is especially great if you or your partner tend to move around a lot during the night. When compared to a leading mattress in the category, the Tempur-Pedic, Loom & Leaf has all of the quality at less than half the price! As far as memory foam mattresses go, you won’t find a more luxurious bed at a more affordable price than a Loom & Leaf.

Zenhaven Mattress Review

About Zenhaven Mattress

Another in the impressive lineup of Saatva brands, Zenhaven is a premium luxury latex mattress that we believe sets the benchmark for all latex mattresses on the market. The Zenhaven has an innovative two-sided design–you essentially get two mattresses in one. The Luxury Plush side has is about 4-5 level of firmness on a 1-10 scale. Flip it over and you have a Gentle Firm bed, about 7-8 on the firmness scale.

Zenhaven is made from 100% pure Talalay latex, which offers great support with a soft, cushiony feel. Whichever side you choose to lay on, you’re getting the same 5-zone comfort layer designed with varying densities, which provides exceptional pressure-free support and better spinal alignment.

Many customers report a “weightless” feel on Zenhaven’s latex. It provides surprising lift and natural airflow to keep you cool while you sleep. As far as latex mattresses go, the Zenhaven is number one. Build your custom Zenhaven below or keep reading about what makes it’s great.

  • 20-year warranty
  • 120-day trial
Pros

Two-sided design with a different firmness level on each side.
Extremely quiet.
Free delivery and old mattress removal.
Great sleep trial and warranty.

Cons

Average edge strength, but better than many latex mattresses.
Made of heavy materials which makes it somewhat difficult to move.

METRICS RATING DETAILS
Noise EXCELLENT Zenhaven mattresses are extremely quiet, making little-to-no noise when you or your partner shift around on it.
Durability GREAT Zenhaven mattresses are new, so it’s hard to say exactly how long they will last. The quality of the latex used in its construction suggests it will be as durable if not more durable than many of its competitors and should last well over 7 years.
Huggability GREAT The Luxury Plush (medium/soft) side adheres to your shape perfectly to eliminate pressure points that can cause pain, while the Gentle Firm offers similar body-hugging with somewhat less of a sinking-in feel.
Motion Isolation GREAT Zenhaven mattresses absorb and minimize motion to a significant extent, and many owners report a reduced number of nighttime sleep disturbances.
Temperature GREAT Zenhaven’s latex has an open cell structure which allows for greater air circulation and counters body heat to promote cooler sleep. This natural airflow gives you a mattress that’s extremely breathable. Most customers agree it makes for a nice, cool sleeping experience.
Odor GOOD With a Zenhaven mattress, you’re not breathing in anything that can be harmful to you–in fact, the mattress actually has some impressive health benefits–nor do you have to live with any of those unpleasant smells that can linger on a new mattress. Any smell that does exist upon unpacking will dissipate within a couple of days.
Sex GOOD Responsiveness on most latex beds is somewhat lacking, but the Zenhaven (especially the Gentle Firm side) can be great for couples who like a little bounce.
Edge Support AVERAGE With latex beds, edge support can be lacking, but Zenhaven is about as good as they come in this department.
Is the Zenhaven Mattress right for me?

Judging the characteristics of a mattress is a subjective process – everyone has a different sleeping experience on different mattresses and their own interpretation of firmness, support, etc. Your own comfort and support are perhaps the most critical things you need to consider when choosing the right mattress for you.

Zenhaven sets the standard for all latex mattress, and can cater very well to all kinds of sleep types and weight/size profiles. If you sleep on your back, Zenhaven provides exceptional support. Stomach sleepers can count on great support for their lower back. If you sleep on your side and experience back, shoulder or hip pain, you will also be pleasantly surprised by the pressure relief Zenhaven offers.

Equally impressive and handy is the flippablilty factor of Zenhaven. You really do get two mattresses in one. If you decide that one side is not for you, you don’t have to go searching for a new mattress, just flip the one you have and it’s a different bed altogether.

You’ll love Zenhaven if…
You value all-natural and hypoallergenic materials in your mattress.
You’re not sure how firm you like your mattress – Zenhaven gives you two comfort choices in one bed.
You like the feel of memory foam beds, but find them too hot. Zenhaven’s latex provides that soft feel, while keeping you much cooler.
You enjoy a responsive, yet even feel.

Layers & Construction

1. Organic cotton cover
2. Moisture-wicking 100% organic New Zealand wool
3. Proprietary “5 Zone” latex comfort layer
4. Latex Support Core base layer

Firmness (1 Soft – 10 Firm)

Zenhaven mattresses come in two comfort levels, Luxury Plush and Gentle Firm. And guess what? You get both. Just flip the bed over for Luxury Plush or Gentle Firm. This innovation is a lifesaver when you sleep on the firm side and realize you prefer a softer feel (or vice versa).

Luxury Plush (4-5)
The more popular of the two, Luxury Plush conforms and supports your body effectively while maintaining a soft, luxurious feel.

Gentle Firm (7-8)
18% firmer than Luxury Plush, for people who want a slightly firmer feel.

Sizing & Pricing

The Zenhaven is available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and California King at the following prices.

SIZE DIMENSIONS PRICES W/ FOUNDATION
Twin 38″W x 75″L $1,249 $1,458
Twin XL 38″W x 80″L $1,349 $1,508
Full 54″W x 75″L $1,699 $1,908
Queen 60″W x 80″L $1,899 $2,158
King 76″W x 80″L $2,499 $2,817
California King 72″W x 84″L $2,499 $2,817
Trial & Warranty

Zenhaven mattresses come with a 120-day trial and a 20-year warranty.

Delivery

The Zenhaven does not come compressed or in a box. Customers get the Saatva standard free white glove delivery service that includes hand delivery, set up in the room of your choice, and the removal of your old mattress.

Bottom Line

If you want a latex mattress, go with Zenhaven. It is one of the best – we think the best on the market. Latex is an expensive, durable material, so mattresses that are made of latex can be pricey. That makes Zenhaven a little pricier than some memory foams, but when compared to other latex options, there is no better value. The Zenhaven’s unique two-sided construction and commitment to American-made, healthy materials put this bed a cut above its competitors.

Saatva Mattress Review

Billed as America’s best-priced luxury mattress, winner of the 2018 Sustainability Award, and making the 2018 Inc 5000 list for their fourth consecutive year, Saatva is our top pick!

About Saatva

Founded in 2010, Saatva is a pioneer in the ecommerce mattress space. The company takes great pride in being able to sell luxury beds of the highest quality, at an affordable price, with outstanding customer service.

Because Saatva sells its products online, direct-to-consumer, it saves on expensive retail locations and sales commissions so they can pass those savings on to you. That’s how the company can afford to sell extremely high-quality mattresses at a much lower price than its luxury competitors.

An outstanding mattress choice for just about anyone, the Saatva comes in multiple sizes, heights, and firmness levels, so it can be tailored to fit a wide range of sleep types.

Saatva is committed to sustainability, using eco-friendly materials to make its mattress. The coil support network, cushioned feel and strengthened edge, uphold an even surface that is optimal for sleep alignment.

There are certainly innersprings on the market at a lower price, but they are not on par with Saatva when it comes to the quality of materials used to make them. See how you can customize a Saatva below, or read on for more on why it’s #1.

  • Hand crafted in the US

Saatva Luxury Pillows

Pros

Mattress structure offers excellent support and more conforming than you get with many standard innerspring beds.
Variety of thicknesses and firmness levels to choose from.
Made from eco-friendly materials including recycled steel, bio-based foams, and organic cotton.
Excellent edge support.
Responsive and bouncy, which can be great for couples (wink, wink).
Free 120-night sleep trial, flexible warranty, and strong customer service that includes complimentary white glove delivery and removal of your old mattress.

Cons

Although it speaks to the mattress’ quality, the Saatva is very heavy and which makes it difficult to move.
Average motion isolation.

METRICS RATING DETAILS
Odor EXCELLENT The polyfoam and memory foam layers of the Saatva mattress do let off some smell, but customers say that the odors fade completely within a couple days of mattress delivery.
Durability GREAT The typical innerspring mattress will last around six or seven years and Saatva mattresses have proven to go that distance.
Temperature GREAT With a more traditional innerspring construction, Saatva mattresses are very cool compared to those that are made of foam and memory foam, which can sleep very hot. It’s one of the cooler mattresses you can find.
Sex GREAT The Saatva is very responsive and has a great bounce to it. The Plush Soft and Luxury Firm models edge out the Firm in this category.
Huggability GOOD Saatva’s construction of individually-wrapped coils and comfort layer of memory foam allow it to conform to your body very well. It also helps relieve pressure and pain better than most innerspring mattresses.
Edge Support GOOD Saatva offers dual perimeter edge support. Innerspring mattresses, in general, offer good edge support, and Saatva is among them. Sleepers say they experience an even, comfortable sleep on the edge of their mattresses, as well as good support when sitting on the edge of the bed.
Noise GOOD Very few Saatva customers complain about the noise of the mattress. We find no significant noise or sounds that are out of the ordinary for an innerspring bed.
Motion Isolation AVERAGE Most innerspring mattresses do not do a good job with motion isolation. Saatva performs a tad better than most in this regard but does not completely eliminate the transfer of motion across its surface.
Is Saatva the right mattress for me?

Judging the characteristics of a mattress is a subjective process – everyone has a different sleeping experience on different mattresses and their own interpretation of firmness, support, etc. Your own comfort and spinal support are perhaps the most critical things you need to consider when choosing the right mattress for you.

Saatva is a great mattress option for pretty much any sleeper. If you’re on the smaller/lighter side of the spectrum, the Firm and Luxury Firm models could be too hard, but you would have a great sleep experience with the Plush Soft. If you’re a heavier person, the Firm and Luxury Firm will offer the support you need for a great night sleep.

You’ll love the Saatva if…
You experience back pain. Saatva offers great mid-back support.
You sleep hot and would like a bed that stays cool so you stay cool.
You enjoy the feeling of floating on a mattress, rather than sinking in as you would with a foam bed.
Would like a more personalized fit when it comes to firmness.
You like a very responsive/bouncy bed.

Layers & Construction

1. Organic cotton cover + Euro pillow top
2. Advanced upper coil system with individually wrapped coils
3. Dual perimeter edge support
4. Lumbar support enhancement with premium memory foam and active wire support
5. Steel coil base support system made from recycled steel

Saatva offers complimentary white glove delivery service that includes hand delivery, set up in the room of your choice, and the removal of your old mattress.

Customer Service

This is Saatva’s bread and butter. When you visit the Saatva site, you’re greeted by a pop-up chat window, so you can instantly get answers to any questions you might have. The site is very easy to navigate and is full of information about the mattresses, their benefits and Saatva’s commitment to sustainability. Call their sales line 24/7, and you’ll be greeted by polite and knowledgeable salespeople who will help you get a mattress with the right specifications for you.

Saatva mattresses are literally made to order. Once you work with a salesperson, or the Saatva website to customize the bed to your needs, then the mattress is made. You know you’re getting a brand new mattress, not one that has been sitting in a warehouse somewhere. And white-glove delivery comes free, meaning Saatva will hand deliver your new mattress and take away your old one for you.

Bottom Line

When comparing it to other beds in its category, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better luxury mattress at a better price than a Saatva. With a Saatva mattress you know you’re getting a great value. With a 120-day home trial, free white glove delivery and free mattress removal, there’s really nothing to lose by trying this mattress. The customer service experience will make the buying experience (and return should you decide it’s not for you) completely painless, even satisfying! Imagine that.
